About the Item
A beautiful set of four Chinese watercolor / gouaches of Junks and Sampans done by Chinese artists for the increasing western trade who were traveling during the late 18th C. to mid 19th C. Beginning in the 1780s these artists started using western papers as a source for their watercolor works as these works were able to display the processes entailed in producing the many exports the west was interested in .Also the beginning of the 19th C. circa 1810 pith paper was also commonly used for these Chinese gouaches. All four of these art works are framed in magnificent gilded hand carved matching frames, please note the beautiful exquisite matting and when they were purchased 30 years ago the owner attributed the frames as being Heydenryk .They truly are a beautiful set and would be a handsome addition for anyones home.
