About the Item
Amazing Chinese export Kuancai ten-panel coromandel screen featuring a mythical flora and fauna landscape. Made in the 17th century style that was so loved and collected by Coco Chanel for her Paris apartment. Each large panel is layered with numerous coats of black lacquer in a smooth piano finish. The lacquer is incised with designs and filled with lacquer pigments in vibrant colors. The landscape scene is decorated with intricate mythical exotic birds amid a treed forest with clouds and sun. The border of the screen is decorated with scholars objects in similar shades. The reverse side of the screen has Chinese script on eight panels. The lacquer has a desirable faded, aged patina with minor losses. From a grand estate in Atherton, CA.
