About the Item

Magnificent vintage Chinese Ming Dynasty Emperor portrait wearing a yellow Imperial robe w/ dragons phoenix, symbols hand painted on silk matted framed in black lacquered wood frame. Beautiful condition, keeping in mind that this is vintage and not new so will have signs of use and wear even if it has been refinished or restored. Specifically, there is some waviness to the silk I assume from being rolled at some point in its life. Please see photos, zoom in for details, and see long description as they are part of the condition report. We attempt to portray any imperfections. Circa, 19th-20th Century. ALL HAIL… HIS MAGESTY… THE EMPEROR!!!! WOW!!! Take a bow folks!!! This is a magnificent hand painted on silk ancestral portrait depicting an emperor (likely of the Ming Dynasty) sitting in his Royal throne… Let’s take a dive into some FACINATING facts… The Emperor’s robes were not merely attractive, decorative clothing… but each detail served as symbols that convey his power, virtue, and his imperial legitimacy. Ours is wearing a GORGEOUS bright yellow Imperial robe adorned with Chinese symbols intricately detailed dragon phoenix motifs, which symbolize imperial power and good fortune... The sun and moon upon each opposite shoulder represent Yin (dark) Yang (light) or dynamic balance… they are complementary interdependent, and bright yellow is a color traditionally associated with Chinese Ming Dynasty Emperors. In ancient China the Emperor held the highest position of power authority acting both as a political religious leader. He was seen as the “Son of Heaven!” … the link between the human world and the celestial realm. He would perform rituals to honor ancestors, execute offerings to Heaven Earth, and he would maintain cosmic order. Okay… enough of this history lesson!! LOL!!! Isn’t it interesting though?? We found the “yesteryear” of this piece incredibly fascinating!! His gorgeous green throne displays golden dragons behind his back aside his arms the rug and surrounding elements showcase the sophisticated artistry and marvelous representation of Chinese heritage encased within this piece. And, although we were unable to find a signature on this beauty, these type of portraits were often created by skilled court painters, having to follow STRICT guidelines to ensure accurate representation of the emperor’s dignity, power, and supreme status! Talk about PRESSURE!!! Whew… I wouldn’t want to be the guy that did a sloppy job on the Emperor’s portrait, would you??!! NO THANKS!! LOL… This incredible painting is elegantly matted and framed in a fabulous black lacquered wood frame with rounded corners which simply enhances its display and serves as simple exquisite preservation for the delicate, hand painted silk. It is going to be a beloved addition to ANY wall in your home. This guy is handsome, dignified, and in his presence DEMANDS attention. This phenomenal hand painted silk Emperor portrait bears a beautiful depiction of thought-provoking Chinese history and the Ming Dynasty, and quite frankly… IT NEEDS TO BE YOURS!!! Beautiful condition, keeping in mind that this is vintage and not new so will have signs of use and wear. The whole top and leaves have been scuffed and given a coat of poly for durability. Please see photos and zoom in for details. We attempt to portray any imperfections. Circa, Mid-Late 20th Century. 4 Mid-20th Century Asian Cast Bronze Figures on Black Wood Plaques Signed Gansu

Marvelous vintage Asian plaques of cast bronze figures mounted on black painted plywood backgrounds signed Gansu, set of 4. Beautiful condition, keeping in mind that these are vintage and not new so will have signs of use and wear even if it has been refinished or restored. Specifically, each plaque background has had a fresh coat of black paint however, they still have nicks, dings, and chiggers appropriate with age. We added new hangers, and the bronze figures retain their original patinated finish. Please see photos, zoom in for details, and see long description as they are part of the condition report. We attempt to portray any imperfections. Circa, Mid-20th Century. If you are a lover of arts and culture, we have the perfect plaques for you!! We have four marvelous cast bronze Asian figures articulating extraordinary expressions of what we believe to be visual arts, culinary arts, musical arts, and performance arts. Each cast bronze figure is mounted upon a rectangular freshly painted black plywood base plaque, each bearing differing patina or signs appropriate with age such as nicks or dings that we feel only enhance the beauty of their presence. As a matter of fact, this particular set of four was among my mother’s personal collection for many years, so it holds a special place in my heart for sure!! In our research we discovered that Gansu is a province in north-central China. Its city Jiayuguan is best known for the magnificent Great Wall. Awesome!! Each cast bronze figure exudes their own form of art, celebrating life and all of the beauty that comes with it. One holds a serving tray with a couple of glasses and a carafe… in my world there is probably a delicious red wine inside that carafe just waiting to pass through my lips!! Whatever it may be, it must be something lovely, delicious, and a bit mysterious! Another figure embraces an incredible sculpture that drapes from the tip of her shoulder, under her arm, and secretly swoops behind her. Behold… a vision of loveliness left to your imagination … a puzzling and optically pleasing piece of artistry. While another figure proudly plays a flute, twinkling their fingers across the keys… filling the air with joyful notes & sounds that tickle your ears… But let’s not leave out the last figure dancing blissfully to the beat… skipping and shuffling her bare feet in the sand. And did you notice everyone is dressed to the T’s!! Gorgeous cloaks, gowns, Hanfu, headdresses, obis, wraps, and jewels!! What a PARTY...
