About the Item

A wonderful and quite evocative original watercolor painting on wove paper by Japanese artist Fukutaro Terauchi (1891-1964) featuring a serene village landscape scene with a large towering Shinto or Buddhist pagoda temple (perhaps in Kyoto), venerable snow clad pine tree and a few towns people walking quietly in the rapidly falling snow. It is a beautiful composition by a master artist. Terauchi's attractive watercolor paintings and woodblock prints often focused on traditional Japanese scenery throughout the seasons. This work dates likely to the early Show Period (1926-1989) but could be earlier. The painting is signed by the artist in the lower right (His name is often misread as Tanauchi or Tarauchi). Would be a great addition to any Japanese/Asian art collection or make for an eye catching stand alone accent artwork in about any setting. The painting is matted and framed and ready to display.
