About the Item

Six panel screen made by Gracie. The wallpaper and screen date to the 1990's. The wallpaper is handpainted, with a detailed design of flowering trees, birds and butterlies, with a decorative garden fence element at the base. Within the fence are panels of landscape and figure design. The screen is constructed with french canvas hinges, so the design connects nicely from panel to panel. The design has an antiqued effect, with patina created through sanding and glazing. Gracie, establised in 1898, and still family owned is now in it's sixth generation. Gracie was the first American firm to import handpainted Chinese wallpaper on a large scale. The wallpaper was handpainted in China, and the screen was made in Gracie's New York aert studio.
