About the Item

A beautiful Japanese Asian Edo Period (1603-1868) Nagasaki School/ Nanpin School nature landscape scene painting featuring a playful bird and colorful spring flowers in full bloom. The gorgeous detail and vivid colors make this a special work. The Nanpin school (南蘋派 Nanpin-ha) was a school of painting which flourished in Nagasaki during the Edo period. The school took its name from Shen Nanpin, the art name of Chinese painter Shen Quan (1682–1760), an artist who painted in the Ming academic style and who specialized in bird-and-flower painting. This hand-painted work is signed in black ink by the artist, and with his two red seals descending along the top left. "Edo Period Mid 19th Century" noted on the paper verso. The piece is framed and ready to display. A wonderful, rare, and one of a kind original painting. Would be a great addition to any Japanese or Asian art collection or make for an eye catching stand alone accent work in about any setting.
