About the Item

A gorgeous four-panel Showa Period Japanese Byobu folding screen depicting a nature landscape scene with a group of Herons frolicking in the snow covered bare Winter branches of a large tree above a piercing blue waterway. Painted in mineral colors on oxidized metal/silver leaf. The vibrant, rich yet muted/understated colors, silver leaf, and beautiful hand-painted detail of the birds and snow filled trees makes this quite an attractive work. Original decorative period brass hardware adds another wonderful touch. Signed (in black ink) and sealed (in red) by the artist. We were told this screen was from the 1930s but we believe it is likely from the mid to late Showa period (1926-1989), thought it could have been created in the 30s and imported at a later date. A beautiful, engaging, and special work. And rare image. Would be a great addition to any Japanese or Asian art/screen collection or make for an eye catching stand alone accent artwork in almost any setting whether used as a room divider or hung on the wall as a work of art. Approximate dimensions when fully extended: 36" high, 70.5" wide, .50" deep Approximate folded dimensions: 36" high, 18" wide, 2.75" deep.
