About the Item
A gorgeous four-panel Showa Period Japanese Byobu folding screen featuring a luminous Mount (Mt,) Fuji perched high above a beautiful natural landscape scene which depicts a small quiet village, a loan boatman crossing a serene, placid waterway, lake or river, and beautiful forest trees in various sizes and colors. The vibrant, rich colors and beautiful hand-painted detail (notice the fall colors of the surrounding fauna and bright blue tinged leaves on some of the trees) really makes this quite an attractive work. Fuji radiates in the light.
Original decorative period brass hardware adds another wonderful touch.
Signed (in black ink) and sealed (in red) by the artist.
Likely from the mid to late Showa period (1926-1989).
A beautiful, engaging, and special work. For whatever reason, we have found screens that feature Mt. Fuji very hard to find so perhaps apparently rare. Would be a great addition to any Japanese or Asian art/screen collection or make for an eye catching stand alone accent artwork in almost any setting whether used as a room divider or hung on the wall as a work of art.
