About the Item

A gorgeous, large two-panel antique Japanese Byobu folding screen depicting a nature landscape scene with a lone house, perhaps a tea house, hidden in the trees and foliage with distant misty mountains in the background. It is quite a serene composition with beautiful hand-painted detail. The use of gold leaf and negative space by the artist really makes this quite an attractive work. The work is signed in black ink by the artist. Provenance: From an important Private Southern California collection. We are listing as from the early Meiji Period (1868-1912) but it is quite possible that it could have also been created in the latter part of the Edo Period (1603-1868) A beautiful and engaging work. Would be a great addition to any Japanese or Asian art/screen collection or make for an eye catching stand alone accent artwork in almost any setting whether used as a room divider or hung on the wall as a work of art. Approximate dimensions when fully extended: 69.5" high, 60" wide, .75" deep Approximate folded dimensions: 69.5" high, 30" wide, 1.5" deep.
