Amazing 19th century Japanese Edo period six panel folding byobu screen depicting Chinese children at play. The screen alludes to the 100 children theme. The paintings are set in a lacquer painted faded red frame with dramatic gold leaf borders. The characters have vibrant color pigments and intricate artwork. The paper has a lovely aged patina with old repairs, but full of character and charm. From an estate in Bel Air, CA.
