Japanese Set Four Silk Bamboo Blinds or Screens "Sudare" Best Quality

Japan, a fine set of four (4) silk and bamboo sudare, Japanese rolled screens or blinds complete with original incised metal hangers and pretty silk bows. Fine condition. Rolled for easy installation and display. Engraved metal hangers are 4 inches high and their opening is 2.5 inches. These may be removed for installation. Dimensions: Each is 34.5 inches wide and 66.5 inches in length The beautiful high quality tan and gold silk used in their construction is lovely. The cords are in tact. The metal hangers in perfect gently used condition. The wavy bamboo sections you may view are natural and original to their construction and ensemble. Their superb bamboo craftsmanship allows air or sunlight to enter while in down mode. Good opportunity as complete traditional sets of four like this and especially of this quality are infrequently available. About Sudare: Sudare are screens or blinds. They are sometimes called misu as well, particularly if they have a green fabric hem. Sudare are made of horizontal slats of decorative wood, bamboo, or other natural material woven together with simple string, colored yarn, or other decorative material to make nearly solid blinds. They could be either rolled or folded up out of the way. Sudare are used in many Japanese homes to shield the verandah and other openings of the building from sunlight, rain, and insects. They are normally put up in spring and taken down again in autumn. Their light structure allows breezes to pass through, a benefit in the hot Japanese summers. Elaborate sudare for palaces and villas used high-quality bamboo, with expensive silk and gold embroidery worked in.
