About the Item
Serene mid-20th century Showa period Japanese four-panel folding byobu screen made in the Nihonga school style. The painting features a spring bamboo landscape with blossoming flowers and two Japanese song birds resting on a branch. Painted over a gilt silk background with natural ink and color pigments. The painting is set in a natural wood finished frame with a silk brocade border. The background has subtle bamboo leaf shadows covering the backdrop of the landscape. Very good, well-preserved condition given age and use. From an estate in Marin, California. Signed with an artist seal on the right side.
