About the Item
Amazing Japanese Taisho period two-panel byobu screen depicting a colorful rooster and hen in a bamboo landscape. The large painting features vibrant ink and color natural pigments over a dramatic silver leaf square background. Painted in the Nihonga school style by Zako Kocho (Japanese b. 1898-?). Born in Hyogo, Kocho studied under Nishiyama Suisho and specialized in flower and bird paintings. Signed by the artist on the bottom left with a seal. Provenance: From an estate in San Francisco, CA. Purchased from Imari Antiques in Sausalito, CA. Mounted in a black lacquered frame.
