About the Item

Fantastic Asian four panel folding byobu screen painting depicting the popular theme "One Hundred Children, or Boys". This theme was often painted by Kano School painters in the Edo period who worked for shoguns. The painting is titled "Picture of hundred children" with seals by the artist on the top left side. The lively scene is painted with natural ink and color pigments over a gilt background with vibrant tones and intricate details. The screen is set in a lacquered wood frame with a wide silk brocade border. Very good, well-preserved condition with minor fading commensurate age and use. The screen measures nearly 5 feet wide opened flat and is painted with lush green tones of pine trees. From an estate in San Francisco, California.
