An attractive example of a burl wood natural organic wood flower or display table crafted from golden camphor wood root and burl. This stunning single root table is beautifully finished.
Dimensions: 38 inches high and 23 inches wide.

Provenance: New England collection and originally acquired from an old Chinese Fujian Provincial collection 2008.
The impressive table carved and fashioned from one significant tree root with exposed purposely smoothed top and naturalistic natural root-bark sides the top smoothly polished to expose a fine grained surface.
History:
It takes an expert's eye to recognize the beauty and potential of root and burl treasures that are found in the wild. Skilled artisans then transform these natural wonders into functional and unique works of art China’s root carving tradition dates far back to the Warring States period, over 2000 years ago.
Traditional flower tables might have been placed between two chairs and sometimes doubled as incense stands. By the 20th century, China’s entrepreneurial furniture makers began crafting more exotic furniture from singular huge roots- some reaching ten feet in diameter. This superb example is among the best work of art to come out of a Fujian family workshop and the private collection of the president of the shop..... in many decades. It is carved from a large, exotic camphor tree root and wood found on the border with Myanmar.

This is a handsome Japanese mid century heavy hardwood bench hand chiseled on plank in a dramatic "wave" pattern using traditional Japanese tools "Oire Nomi". The butterfly joint at the end reminds us of George Nakashima's popular technique he used on his famous mid century tables.
Solid and Heavy. Genuinely old waxed chocolate patina from care. We have applied a further protective coat of bees wax to ensure continued weather resistant use.
