Superb 19th Century Mongolian Thangka of the Five Dakinis
A powerful and beautifully rendered 19th-century Mongolian thangka depicting the Five Dakinis, executed with exceptional vibrancy and spiritual presence. Measuring 19.5 x 31 inches overall, with a painted image area of 12.75 x 14.5 inches, this thangka is mounted within its original green brocade silk frame, complete with wooden finials and hanging cord.
At the center, a dynamic red dakini stands encircled by a ring of flames, radiating transformative energy. Four additional dakinis—each with their own color, attributes, and mudras—occupy the surrounding mandorlas, creating a balanced and harmonious composition steeped in tantric symbolism. The palette remains remarkably rich, with deep blues, greens, oranges, and reds that preserve the devotional intensity of the work.
This thangka has been in a private collection for over 30 years and is regarded by the collector as a personal favorite—an indication of its superior artistry and presence. The quality of the painting, the strength of the imagery, and the preservation of both textile and pigment place this among the finest Mongolian thangkas of its type.
