About the Item
A striking 19th century Tibetan thangka of the enlightened one, Buddha Nagaraja; King of Nagas (a.k.a. Buddha Nageshvara). Shown seated in the vajra position atop a lotus blossom, hands clasped in front of his heart in ‘Enlightened Mudra’, his head shaded by a green disc interspersed with seven snakes. Flanking him and above are deities seated atop billowing green
orange-coloured clouds, beneath him are rolling seas inhabited by orange, green
white-coloured water-nagas, sided by outcroppings of temples and various enlightened scholars. Hand painted with mineral dyes on linen, bordered by finely embroidered silk panels.
Mounted with archival materials and fronted by a glass panel, set within a custom made brushed gilt metal frame.
Sight dimensions, 35” h x 23.5” w, (with silk border, 54.5” h x 32” w), framed dimensions, 55.25" h x 33.5" w x 1.5" d.
