About the Item

A wonderful image titled "Way to the Kasuga Shrine (Kasuga sando)" by one of Japan's finest 20th century artist and one of, if not the greatest working artist in the Shin-Hanga (new print) movement. Yoshida was the first in a long lineage of renowned family artist. His works can be found in numerous prominent collections and museums worldwide. This work exhibits the coveted Jizuri Seal indicating that it was self printed by Yoshida in his lifetime. This work features a lovely, serene scene with travellers gathered at a roadside teahouse joined by the friendly deer, indigenous to the park at Nara, where the celebrated main shrine is located. An engaging and complex composition. The work was printed in 1938 and still displays a very vibrant, rich color. The woodblock print is hand pencil signed and titled by Yoshida and displays his brushed sumi ink "Yoshida" signature and is sealed with his red "Hiroshi" seal within the image. The Jizuri seal can be seen towards the top of the left margin. A special and highly coveted work. Would be a great addition to any Japanese or Asian art and print collection or make for an eye-catching stand-alone accent artwork in about any setting. The print is matted and ready to display once framed. Mat dimensions: 19" high, 14" wide Viewable art: 15.25" x 10.25"
