About the Item
A beautiful and wonderfully colored woodblock print by famed Japanese artist and Shin-Hanga master printmaker Kawase Hasui. This print is titled "Rain at Yasuniwa, Nagano Prefecture (Yasuniwa no ame [Nagano ken])" It was originally published in 1946 (This may be a later 1940s printing) and it depicts a residential landscape with a solitary figure walking through the light rain carring his umbrella for protection. Beautiful distant mountain clouded vistas and reflections in the foreground/waterway give the image depth and help to complete the complex composition.
The woodblock print is signed in black ink (signed Hasui) and sealed in red (sealed Kawase) within the lower corner of the image and was published by Watanabe Shozaburo.
A very coveted and special image by Hasui. Would make a fantastic addition to any Japanese or Asian art/ print collection or make for an eye catching stand alone accent artwork in about any setting.
