About the Item
A wonderful, quite engaging modern abstract print by renowned Japanese artist Shoichi Ida (1941-2006). This work is titled "Between - Vertical and Horizontal - Paper Between a Leaf and Water Stain". A very minimalist zen work from the series Surface is the Between. The use of negative space to balance the elements lends to the subtle yet complex design/composition.
The limited edition lithograph/screen print is hand pencil signed (also with his embossed stamp/mark), titled, dated (1981) and numbered (1/29. - The coveted first print of this particular image) by the artist.
Shoichi Ida's awards include the Award For Excellence in International Cultural Exchange from the National Endowment for the Arts presented to him and Robert Rauschenberg in 1986 and the prestigious Suntory Prize in Japan awarded to him in 1989. His work can be found in numerous collections and museums including the British Museum, London; Cincinnati Art Museum; Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco; Honolulu Museum of Art; Los Angeles County Museum of Art; Museum of Modern Art, New York; National Museum of Art, Osaka; National Museum of Asian Art, Smithsonian, Washington, DC; National Museum of Modern Art, Kyoto; National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo; and Portland Art Museum, Oregon.
A special piece created at the end of the Showa Period. Would be a great addition to any Japanese or Asian art/print collection or make for an eye catching stand alone accent artwork in about any setting.

A beautifully composed, rare woodblock print by famed Japanese printmaker Kiyoshi Saito.
