About the Item

“Snowy Heron in Lotus Pond” — Limited Edition Woodblock Print by Shiho Sakakibara (1887–?) A refined and atmospheric Japanese woodblock print depicting a snowy heron catching a fish amid a serene lotus pond. The artist masterfully captures the delicate texture of the bird’s feathers, the soft translucency of lotus leaves, and the calm movement of water, creating an elegant and tranquil composition rooted in classical Nihonga aesthetics. This work is No. 166 from a limited edition of 200 impressions, printed in 1960 from the original blocks by the celebrated modern painter Shiho (Sakakibara). Known for his graceful naturalistic subjects, Shiho studied traditional Japanese painting techniques and became recognized for his subtle palette and refined brushwork. The print retains the original publisher’s label on the reverse, confirming the edition and production details.
