About the Item

A wonderful Japanese woodblock print by famed Japanese artist Utagawa Hiroshige (Ando Hiroshige) (1797-1858) tilted "Yoroi Ferry at Koami-cho (Yoroi no watashi Koami-cho)" and from his One Hundred Famous Views of Edo series which consisted of 119 ukiyo-e prints begun and largely completed by Hiroshige (Hiroshige II completing the series after Hiroshige's death). The prints were first published in Japan in serialized form from 1856–59. Hiroshige divided the 119 images into Four Seasons. This work, number 46, was part of his summer section images. The print is signed and sealed by Hiroshige who is universally considered Japan's finest ukiyo-e artist and the last great master of the tradition and exhibits a wonderful composition and rich, beautiful colors. A very sought-after and coveted image in the series. Hiroshige's work can be found in numerous collections and museums including: The Brooklyn Museum, NY The National Galleries of Scotland The Art Institute of Chicago The British Museum, London UK The Australian Galleries, Australia The Art Gallery of South Australia The print was acquired in Kyoto, Japan in the 1950s/60s at The Red Lantern Shop which specialized in authentic and original Japanese prints and art. Would be a great addition to any collectors of Hiroshige's work or fine Japanese prints/ art or eye-catching stand-alone accent work in about any setting.
