About the Item

An exquisite original ukiyo-e woodblock print by Utagawa Kunisada I (Toyokuni III), a dominant force in 19th-century Japanese art. This piece captures three bijin (beauties) on a spring outing, paused by a body of water under blossoming sakura (cherry trees). The composition is classic Kunisada, balancing human elegance with natural beauty. Each figure is distinguished by her ornate kimono, rendered in rich vegetable-based pigments of deep indigo, rust-orange, and delicate blues. The artist's mastery is evident in the fine lines of the hair and the complex textile patterns. Located in the lower right, the print bears the artist's signature cartouche, "Kunisada ga," confirming its authenticity. It is presented in excellent antique condition, professionally housed in a contemporary black frame with a high-quality, acid-free archival mat board. This piece represents a superb opportunity to own an authentic and well-preserved work from the golden age of the Japanese woodblock print.
