About the Item
Although sometimes referred to as ‘paintings’ or ‘dream stones’, these are sections of Dali marble, quarried from the Cangshan mountain range in Western China and carefully chosen
hewn to expose their unique russet, black
grey striations that evoke ethereal, misty mountainous landscapes
clouds. Each showing hand painted calligraphy in red.
The Chinese refer to these striations as "moss entangled in melting snow". The reverse of the frame showing showing traditional joinery methods featuring a chamfered panel secured with individual 'keys' slotted
nailed in place.

Located in Atlanta, GA
A black carved Chinese inkstone with an conforming oval cover circa early 20th century (late Qing to Republic period). The inkstone appears to be slate stone and was likely a She type (SheYan), one of the four famous inkstones in China that comes from She County (Anhui Province) and Wuyuan County (Jiangxi Province).
