About the Item

A superb hand-carved tribal spoon from the northern Philippines (Cordillera region), dating from the early 20th century. Made of tropical hardwood, it displays a beautiful dark patina, lustrous from time and use. Its curved shape and flared handle evoke the silhouette of a whale's tail—a symbol of strength and abundance in local tradition. Once used for serving rice or ritual offerings, this piece combines functionality with sculptural elegance. A fine example of indigenous Filipino craftsmanship. Length (at the curve): 19 cm
