About the Item

15thC Sri Lankan Divided Kingdom early Kandy’sPeriod Standing Bronze Buddha. Quite rare to find a figure from this period in this large size and high quality--the vast majority are the later Kandy style, which look similar but have rounder faces and distinctive ripples covering the robes. If you search the internet you will find very few of this type outside of museums or high end auction houses that are not just a few inches tall and quite provincial in casting. The size is an impressive 12 1/2 inches tall for the figure only and a total height on attached stand of 13.5 inches. It is extremely heavy for its size. Many Lankan Buddhas can be stiff and remote--this one displays great personality and friendliness. I am posting many of my most cherished and valuable pieces as I near retirement. They are not inexpensive, but they are each special, very uncommon, authentic pieces, the equivalent of which you are unlikely to find again.

15-18thC Sri Lankan Divided Kingdom/Kandy Bronze-Very Special Buddha, 10293
Located in Ukiah, CA
A rare and exceptional 15th–18th century Sri Lankan Standing Bronze Buddha from the Divided Kingdom Period. This finely cast figure exhibits a beautiful surface glow and a soft, aged patina that enhances its serene presence. Larger and of far higher quality than most surviving examples from this era, it stands apart from the more common later Kandy style Buddhas, which feature rounder faces and rippled robes. The sculpture is notably heavy for its size, reflecting the density and quality of the bronze used. Unlike many Sri Lankan Buddhas...
