About the Item
An amazing set of 19th century Chinese zodiac ink cakes or ink sticks set of 12 animals in a beautiful wooden presentation box. A set of 12 assorted raised Zodiac animal motifs with very decorative designs. On the back of each piece it translates to the Twelve Zodiac Animals and names each animal with the artist seal or makers name.
Chinese ink cakes, also known as ink sticks, are solid blocks
made from soot and binders, used for calligraphy and painting.
Inkstones are used in traditional East Asian calligraphy and painting by grinding an ink stick against the surface with a small amount of water to produce liquid ink.
They have been produced for centuries, with the finest
examples often featuring elaborate carvings and designs,
serving both functional and artistic purposes.
This is a great set of twelve in a beautiful wooden presentation box in very good condition.
