About the Item

The statue in the image is a depiction of Wei Tuo Bodhisattva (also known as Skanda), a major protective deity and dharma protector in Chinese Buddhism. Wei Tuo is considered a devoted guardian of Buddhist monasteries, the teachings of the Buddha (Dharma), and the monastic community (Sangha). He is often depicted in full armor as a youthful Chinese general. He is typically shown wearing a helmet and armor, and holding a vajra club or staff, which is sometimes rested on the ground as seen in the image. In many East Asian Buddhist temples, his statue is placed in the Hall of the Heavenly Kings, positioned at the back of the main Buddha statue and facing inward to guard the temple complex.
