About the Item

Rare Early Burmese Bronze Monk, Late Pyu to Early Pagan Period (Circa 11th Century) A delightful and exceptionally rare solid-cast bronze figure of a seated monk, dating from the late Pyu to early Pagan period—approximately 900 years old. The figure is shown in a serene posture with hands in anjali mudra (gesture of reverence), seated cross-legged upon a lotus base with elegant beaded detailing. Measuring 3.25 inches in height (4 3/8 inches including the stand), this finely cast sculpture reflects the refined artistry and spiritual devotion of early Burmese bronze workmanship. This remarkable piece originates from the personal collection of a highly respected Belgian collector known for his specialization in very early and rare Burmese Buddhist bronzes. With its beautifully balanced form, deep patina, and devotional presence, this figure stands as a rare and historically important example of early Burmese Buddhist art—one of the finest of its kind.
