Impressive and quite rare Pair of Hand Carved Giltwood Hardwood hanging Wall Carvings of Chinese origin, last quarter of the Nineteenth Century.
Each beautiful carving depicts a bird possibly a Crane or Phoenix which are significant of symbols of Chinese Art and Culture. The Red Crowned Crane for example is a symbol of longevity in Chinese culture.
Condition: Good condition with nice patination and one or two tiny losses at high points of carvings, Superb gold leaf gilding with nice patination.
Height: (entire) 9.75" (24.25cm). Width: (at top area) 3.25" (8.5cm). Depth: (at top area) 2.5” (6cm).
