This antique palm leaf manuscript book from 19th-century Burma (Myanmar) is an extraordinary piece of Buddhist heritage and craftsmanship. Made from palm leaves bound between two wooden covers and beautifully gilded with 24 krt. gold, it measures 15.8 cm high, 51.4 cm wide, and 6.5 cm deep, with a total weight of 2.8 kgs. Commonly referred to as a Parabaik, this manuscript contains many pages of sacred text written in the Pali language, the ancient liturgical language of Theravāda Buddhism.
