About the Item

This tribal panel originates from the Batak tribe of Sumatra. The Batak are known for the elaborate decoration of their buildings and these decorative panel additions would have been one of a number of panels and carvings which would have decorated the front facade of an important structure; likely from a granary, or the house of a village leader. A stylised lion head, Singa, is the central design focus, and provides protection. The panels are coloured with orange, white and black, the three key colours found in Batak house decoration. Dimensions: Height with Stand 72cm / Height 36cm x Width 97cm x Depth 10cm.
