About the Item

These statues are adorned wood-carved Burmese Mandalay 'Nat' Spirits from the early 20th century. Nats were worshipped by the Burmese people, depicted as supernatural guardians they offer protection and help to counter evil. Carved of teak they are dressed in royal attire with finely detailed carving and hand-painted in multi-layers of weather peeled lacquer pigments. Dimension: Left - height 182cm x width 72cm x depth 15cm / Right – height 170cm x width 80cm x depth 15cm.

    Wear consistent with age and use. Minor fading. Both Nats are well preserved however both show sings of ageing and wear of polychrome. It is important to note that the arms were originally designed to be removable and fit back into the place.
