About the Item
Sculpted in the manner of Khmer statuary, this cast bronze devotional figure depicts a standing Buddhist deity, most likely the beloved goddess Lakshmi. A central figure in Hindu mythology, Lakshmi is also worshipped in many Buddhist sects and is viewed as a goddess of abundance and fortune. In this depiction, she stands with upright posture and both arms outstretched, likely originally holding two lotus blossoms - symbols of purity and enlightenment.
Elevated by a custom wooden mount, the cast bronze figure captures the details of Lakshmi's finery, such as the pleated folds of her sampot robes, the charms strung on her belt, and the beaded texture of her ornate necklace and headdress.
