About the Item
A very fine and attractive Chinese Qing Dynasty turquoise glazed figure of Guanyin dating from the 19th Century or possibly earlier. The hollow biscuit porcelain figurine sits cross legged raised on a lotus flower base and holds a pearl in her lap in cupped hands. Guanyin is dressed in flowing robes and wears an ornate necklace with a hanging head dress. The figure is very well detailed and decorated in a bright turquoise glaze with a small square opening central to her back. The figure has a flat base and is not marked and is unglazed with some elements of the glaze run down over parts of the base. An exceptional example and a wonderful display piece.
Provenance: acquired in the British art market.
