About the Item

This 17th century Ayutthaya Period copper alloy (bronze) head of Buddha depicted in the ‘Phra Chao Song Khruang’ manner (Lord Wearing Ornaments), showing Buddha adorned with an ornate partially gilded crown / diadem rising to a domed ushnisha. The oval face effecting a dignified, yet meditative expression with arched eyebrows over petal shaped eyes, an angular nose smiling full lips, sided by an elongated earlobe terminating to a ‘flower-bud’ finial, all bearing traces of original gilding. Loss noted to one earlobe the partial loss to the casting of the back of the head. Raised overall upon a later bronze plinth, measuring 7” high. Height of head, 4.75” high. Priced in accordance with comparative examples offered sold at Bonham', Christie's Sotheby's.
