An incredible Edo Period Japanese gilt and lacquered carved wood shrine depicting a Bodhisattva with piercing glass eyes, a contemplative expression, and hands clasped in a meditation mudra, seated on a lotus throne under a wildly carved turbulent cloud hood. The lotus throne rests atop a highly carved base depicting phoenix, meandering motifs, and turbulent cloud motifs.
