About the Item
A fine pair of large Asian bamboo carvings of two gentleman regarding the sky dating to the first quarter of the 20th century. Two robed gentlemen stand serenely with upturned faces regarding the sky and holding traditional pipes. Well carved with good detail and utilizing the ribbed surface of the Bamboo Root in the composition of the robes.
The carvings are fine examples of the Ancient Art of bamboo root carving practiced and perfected in both China and Japan and the Pair are particularly large, impressive and very decorative. The Pair feature an excellent age patina and deep natural Amber tone.
One Gentleman is slightly larger than his companion and they each measure respectfully 7.75” high by 4” deep by 4.5” wide and 7” high by 3.85” deep by 4.5” wide.
Condition: Please see detail photos. Various signs of age include expected expected stable age splits as well as natural pitting, craklure and finish losses to the Bamboo mentioned for accuracy as the presentation is exceptional.
