This is a Japanese Kokeshi doll made with wood. It was made around 1970s in showa era.
These wooden dolls from Tohoku region (northern Japan) are composed of a round or cylindrical head and a cylindrical body, without arms. They are hand painted (traditionally in red, black and yellow) and covered with a layer of lacquer.
Originally intended as toys for little girls, they were later sold as souvenirs, and today symbolize fertility and the desire to have a healthy child.
