For the finest garden- an exceptional and spiritual representation of the Buddha expressed in this unique and substantial 10 feet five roof pagoda with four buddha images carved on base.
Japan, a monumental antique stone pagoda tower that is hand carved from solid granite, Meiji period circa 1860, and a spiritual representation of five earthly and celestial elements.
The block underneath the tiers of this Pagoda features beautiful carvings of Buddha on all sides, facing all four directions. This style is known as Shihōbutsu (四方仏), and can also been seen on Chōzubachi water basins. In addition the foundation stone features buddhist symbols on all four sides including lotus vase and a pair of birds of paradise.
The monumental carved stone Buddhist sculptural five layered tower fashioned in eight parts with a tall incised nine ringed finial Hoju representative of nine (9) stages of consciousness development plus five sets of shaped roofs, and four (4) buddhas carved in the square rectangular shaped base. All are hand-carved of granite stone with considerable patina and lichen from appropriate age.

Japan’s stone pagodas were the Japanese Buddhist versions of Chinese pagodas and originally Indian stupas. By the Meiji era, the word to came to mean tower and a pagoda's size was measured in ken, where a ken is the interval between two pillars of a traditional-style building.
This beautifully hand-carved sculpture would make an exceptional visual statement and substantial conversational choice for your special garden location.
