Japanese Huge Antique Bronze Fish Bell Gong And Hardwood Striker

Huge fish gong- first we have seen in this rare large scale size, 21 inches in length Unusual Japanese original antique bronze fish bell and gong in the form of a bream or game fish with an original antique silk suspension cord and hardwood striker. The high quality bronze bell or gong resonates a sound guaranteed to please you! The metal pellets inside resonate a loud rattling sound that communicates to monks that training and workplace activities were about to begin. Immediately useable. Crafted using the ancient lost wax technique, this bell is a Japanese Shinto Suzu art style - dou-gyo bell, representative of China's earlier Ming Dynasty and is a form that has been in Japan since the early Edo period. It is attractively cast with decorative Buddhist Sanskrit characters. It was frequently used in a Shinto temple environment and when suspended was struck with a wooden striker causing the metal pellets inside to resonate a high pitched sound that communicates to monks that training and workplace activities were about to begin. We will include a complimentary 14 inch hardwood striker as shown , the complete ensemble totals two (2) pieces. You will be receiving the bronze fish bell plus the wood striker. Dimensions: Bronze Fish with suspension cord is 25 inches high to top of the antique braided suspension cord and 21 inches long. The antique wood striker is 14 inches long. Heavy weight 11 pounds. Handmade and hand cast fish with original and fine patina- just the way we like to find them. Good garden candidate! Comments: These huge, early and original old bronze fish gongs are very hard to find now. Our example is in fine condition with a desireable patina ready for your home or special garden space. At the top, the handle (ryûzu) is crafted in the form of two mirrored dragon heads. Around the upper portion of the bell, the pronounced bosses Fu (chi) are arranged in five rows of five.
