About the Item
Large Chinese blue and white glazed pottery sculpture depicting a standing Hotei or Budai Buddha or Laughing Buddha. The figure is depicted standing on a blue rocky mound, smiling, with a large belly, with children climbing on him. The five children represent a happy and prosperous family as well as the five elements in some Feng Shui traditions.
The figures all with open mouths and pierced ears. The Budai is holding an open cup and has striking facial features including a wrinkled forehead, eye creases and dimples.
Dimensions: 8" D, 26 1/2" H, 12" W
Condition: Please see detail photos. Various signs of age include some minor fissures original to production. No chips, no repairs. Very slight inherent unevenness on the bottom alleviated by the addition of two felt pads as shown.
