Late 19th to early 20th century tribal wood paduka sandals, India A sculptural pair of Indian paduka (khadau chappals) sandals with a simple scale pattern and nice encrusted patina. Because leather was prohibited in earlier times, wood was used due to its insulating properties, as it was believed that one's energy would be prevented from being grounded by the earth.
