Le Garde Du Harem, "The Harem Guard Carrying," is a monumental French patinated bronze Orientalist sculpture by renowned artist Georges Charles Coudray (French, 1862-1932). Towering at 36 inches in height, this masterful work captures the formidable yet poised presence of the harem guard, skillfully rendered in intricate detail. The guard stands with a commanding expression, holding a scimitar that evokes both protection and power. Coudray's exceptional craftsmanship is evident in the deep patina and lifelike drapery, embodying the rich, exotic atmosphere of the Orientalist era.
Signed Coudray and Foundry seal for 'Société des Bronzes, Paris
Coudray studied under Falguière and exhibited at the Salon from 1883-1903. He is most well known for his Orientalist studies, many of which were cast by Société des Bronzes de Paris.
Very good condition, normal wear consistent with age and use. Rich, dark-brown and red patina.
