About the Item
Netsuke, très probablement en bois d’ébène, représentant deux souris sur une vannerie, l’une s’en extrayant et l’autre reposant dessus. Traitement réaliste du pelage et de la queue ainsi que du motif de tressage de la vannerie. Malgré sa mauvaise réputation en occident, la souris n’a pas du tout la même réputation au Japon. La souris ou le rat (tous deux appelés nezumi en japonais), sont un des signes du zodiaque, et un symbole de fortune. La figure de la souris associée à un sac ou à tout autre contenant, peut être rapprochée du sac aux trésors de Hotei, un des sept dieux du Bonheur. Figure de prospérité, il est aussi le dieu de la joie, de l’abondance et le gardien des enfants. Son sac contient tout ce dont une personne a besoin dans sa vie quotidienne.
