About the Item

This is a small stone Buddha statue made in the middle of the Edo period in Japan (around the 18th century). Jizo Bodhisattva (right) and Kannon Bodhisattva (left) are lined up on the left and right, with cute faces and hands together in prayer. In Japan, they are also called "Dosojin", which means "gods who protect safe travels". The gods have transformed into Buddhas and been placed at the entrances of villages and worshipped as beings that protect the safety of travelers. There are reference images in specialist books, so I have posted them here. Please take a look. The condition is very good and they stand on their own without any problems. Also, since they are small, they can be placed anywhere, such as the entrance, living room, or garden. The expressions are cheerful and calm. And they are cute. It is difficult to get something like this, but I was lucky enough to get one this time. I would be very happy if someone who likes this would purchase it. This is a recommended item. An exceptional and wood statue of Buddhism Guardian Seitaka Doji from Japan circa Edo period (1603-1868), likely the earlier part of 17th century. One of two chief attendants of Fudou Myouou (the other being Kongara Doji), the name of Seitaka Doji is a transliteration of Sanskrit "Cetaka", meaning servant, slave, and he is said to personify expedient action.
