About the Item

A superb and finely preserved Chinese silk rank badge (buzi) from the Qing Dynasty (1644–1912), later mounted into an early 20th-century wooden tray. The intricately embroidered badge depicts a ranked bird in flight among auspicious clouds, waves, and celestial motifs, all rendered in exquisite multicolored silk threads. The artistry demonstrates the refined craftsmanship and aesthetic sensibilities of late imperial China. The silk embroidery remains in remarkably pristine condition, showing minimal wear and retaining its vivid hues of blue, ivory, gold, coral, and silver. Every detail—from the birds delicately layered feathers to the fine cloud scrollwork—is executed with precision and elegance. The tray frame, made of dark hardwood with its original brass handles, is believed to date to the early-mid 20th -century and remains in original untouched condition. Together, this piece forms a harmonious blend of Qing imperial textile art and early modern decorative design. Textile Origin: Qing Dynasty, China (19th century) Tray Date: Early 20th century Dimensions: Width (handle to handle): 15½ inches (39.4 cm) Depth: 12¾ inches (32.4 cm) Height: 2¾ inches (7 cm) Condition: Silk embroidery in excellent, near-pristine condition with only the slightest signs of age. The wooden tray and handles show light wear consistent with age but are well preserved and structurally sound. An elegant and timeless example of Chinese textile artistry, beautifully presented in a decorative and functional form. This piece would make a distinguished addition to any collection of Asian antiques, Qing textiles, or fine decorative arts.
