About the Item
An Indonesia textile panel professionally presented on a linen canvas. It can be taken off from the canvas for easy and economical shipping upon request. The textile was joined with old woven ikat panels and apparently newer embroidery panels in the style of a ceremonial tapis from Lampung people in Southern Sumatra. It was most likely made in the 20th century as a decorative piece. The embroidery panel depicts long sea-faring boats that carry human figures, reflecting the coastal region's trade tradition and a wide cultural interaction and exchange with far-reaching places.
Examining the piece closely, the ikat panels shows a lot of wear, patina and repairs and the embroidered panels are in relatively good condition, indicating the textile was probably re-joined with old and new material instead of being a ceremonial skirt tapis that has seen authentic use, which is extremely rare and pricey. The panel makes a great bespoken decorative piece for any interior.
The panel itself measures 47" x 51 1/2".
