This magnificent Indonesian textile, measuring 172 × 172 cm, is a square-format hand-embroidered ceremonial cloth, likely intended as a wedding or dowry textile. Set against a rich black background, the composition features a stunning central medallion framed by concentric circular florals and intricate animal motifs — possibly stylized deer or birds, traditional symbols of grace, prosperity, and fertility in Southeast Asian culture. Around the central emblem bloom clusters of lush floral bouquets symmetrically arranged in radiating patterns, rendered in soft pinks, yellows, whites, purples, and greens. The border is equally elaborate, with a dual design: a meandering geometric motif symbolizing continuity, and a floral garland encircling the entire piece, reminiscent of batik-meets-European embroidery influence. The inscriptions in the corners — including the signature and what appears to be initials — suggest the textile was commissioned or personalized, adding historical and emotional value.
