About the Item

This pair of gold gilt framed 18th century four-clawed dragons are quite stunning in both artistic composition and technical execution. Created c. 1796, these elegant pieces were masterfully created and anchored to a deep teal blue silk base with magnificent four-clawed dragons surrounded by flames and clouds, the bottom portion of the piece has a design of wavy gold bands of “standing water” (lishui) with two symmetrical fish leaping from the waves, all work is couched with gold threads. The combination of the gold, white and red couching on the deep teal blue silk creates a breathtaking presentation of these two amazing pieces. A magnificent addition to a collection or to a room decor needing that center point of attention on a wall. These two pieces were once part of the Archibald Gallery in Louisville, Kentucky.
